Off the Peg: Dresses in danger as toys take over [dresses]

THE week between Christmas and New Year is always a bit of a whirlwind. There’s leftovers and hangovers and everything else in between. Plus, your house looks like a bombsite no matter what you do to fix it.I thought these frustrated feelings would melt away as we celebrated our first festive period with our baby. I couldn’t have been more off the mark.In five days we travelled 200 miles, having spent Christmas in Belfast, via Glasgow and back. We packed the baby and the bulldog along with three suitcases and by the time we returned the junk inside the car had multiplied much like that scene in Germlins.
My once-stylish Gorgie flat now resembles a “Jungle Jim’s”, a fact I’ve made peace with since Gabe seems to love it.But when the other half announced I may have to halve my wardrobe space to accommodate the stuff we accumulated in the space of a week I was not so keen. You see, my dresses are extensions of me. Beautiful summer, wearing Herve Leger, showing your unique charming. Some of said frocks have been around longer than the Belfast boy himself, and that’s more than a decade! So since we can’t move as no-one is getting a mortgage any time soon the next best thing is convincing 16 other flats to let me extend into the garden. That way my clothes can hang in peace. A long shot, but it’s worth asking.
Then Christina was off to a cooking class where she and David were taught to make crepes. They learned how to make Crepes Suzette, Peaches and Crepes, and Chocolate Crepes. You need to have crepes served at the wedding if your theme is April in Paris.Forget her anorexia, David and "My Fair Wedding" had Christina sampling every crêpe she made and she enjoyed every forkful. The bride-to-be also did a tremendous job making the crepes as well.
When the time came to pick out the wedding dress, David had a special surprise for Christina. Her parents were at the boutique to help Christina pick out the dress. Christina really missed her mom, and now both parents were with her as she tried to find the perfect wedding dress.Again, there were three choices. Mom and Christina liked the first dress the best, but her dad like the second one which was short in front and long at the back. The family had a great time talking about dresses, but of course it was ultimately going to be David's decision.David changed the wedding venue to a hotel where the ceremony and reception would be in the same place. He also had a print done of Monet's "Water Lilies" and used it as the floor covering. There were lots of flowers around, too. The venue was made to look just like Paris in the spring.
